Probably a dumb question (pods)
04 Sep 2011 02:06
I am working on cleaning up the under seat area of my 750 Twin. Ive got a cafe seat and have moved all the electrical. I also cut/ground all the tabs off the frame where the electronics tray was mounted. Next, I want to do something about that huge airbox. I have been reading all night about how it is almost impossible to get these to run right with pods. I came across one post where someone was blocking off part of their pods to get the bike to run right before they were able to mess with the jetting.
Here is my question, has anyone done something like this but in a more permanent way? Rigging something up like this and added small holes untill it ran right?
I really want pods, but I also really hate carbs, esp ones that jets aren't made for.

The jets are available for the BS-38 Mikuni carbs that come on the 750 twin series. It's the 32mm valve shims which are completely unavailable.
I have done a lot of jetting on mine for headers but never tried pods.

Not sure what those are, can you give a link?
If you hate carb tuning then you hate pods, they go hand in hand. Doubt you will be able to add holes to those and make it right to the stock jetting. If you go pods then convert to VM's to minimize the pain of tuning, CV's are just going to make your life miserable.

those are just breather filters I was using as an example. I came across a few posts where people had put socks over their pods and it ran much much better. So I'm taking that as reducing the airflow through the pods will make them not lean out as bad. I'm just thinking I may be able to make a permanent airflow reducer and tinker enough to get it to run right.
Or maybe ill get real lucky and since my bike is from almost sea level and now its over a mile high, its probably rich as it is and the pods will help it. But I am not counting on that.
