Ian, here you go bud. I'm halfway home on fixing your jet block. My those threads sure were knackered. I guess they made the jet blocks out of chewing gum. Yet another one that the aluminum looked like swiss cheese.

Main jets are the same, but the pilot jets are totally different. Definantly be careful with the others. It doesn't take much to strip them out. If you find yourself with a 10" Crescent wrench in hand when installing the needle jets, you need to look yourself in the mirror. Thirty lashes with a wet noodle. :) Every one I have repaired so far as looked exactly the same when I drilled into it.

Hand tight plus five degrees. Just one little bump with a very short wrench to snug it. No more than that. Make sure that your threads are very clean before you assemble them. It doesn't take much to jamb up an M6x0.75.

Good news Ian. The patient made it through surgery just fine. I finished installing the new threaded insert after work today. Everything that I have fits together just fine. You will have to check for interference between the slide and the jet block. It is possible to get the jet block slightly cocked, and this would cause it to rub on the slide. If this happens just get in contact with me, and I can walk you through the adjustment. Unfortunately, without the slide, I am unable to check for interference. One other thing I did notice was that there was no air jet in the air filter side of the carburetor. I don't know if you removed it or is it missing? In any case, I marked the port with the missing jet in the last photo. Good luck with your carbs. I should be able to get it in the mail by tomorrow.

Tapping new threads on the lathe:

Pressing the insert in place:

Those are just press fit. I have thought about using some form of loctite or epoxy but I'm not sure about compatibility with current fuels. I have decided to err on the side of not using chemicals. I didn't want Ian to have a gummy mess in there if I had chosen the wrong adhesive. If you don't try and get your jet needle gorilla tight, then the press fit works just fine. I did my own carbs this way, and they are holding up good with about 2000 miles since the repair.
