kz550 carb seals
26 Aug 2011 15:25
Hello,
Recently started working on a '80 kz550 that as been in a barn since '85. Got it running and driving but it has no power. If I roll the throttle I can get it going. Compression 137-150psi mix of readings. Points replaced, gap and timing are good.
There is an air leak somewhere. If I spray starter fluid I get increase in idle. I replaced the carb holders, sealed off all the vacuum ports. The 6 carb seals and 2 caps on throttle rod are discontinued. Could air leak here cause an issue? Can I get these seals somewhere else?
Thanks

If it were me I'd strip the carbs and put them in an ultrasonic cleaner.
The parts you mention are available...if you know where to look.
KAWASAKI 92093-1034 CAP,THROTTLE SHAFT $11.95
KAWASAKI 92093-1033 DUST SEAL, THROTTLE $9.95

I've already stripped the carbs and put them in ultrasonic cleaner. I found the seals at bike bandit but after placing the order they notify me I can't order them.
I found the seals don't really matter as far as air leaks it seems. Don't think it's drawing air around the slides.
Got it running better, think the vacuum leak was on the either the vacuum hoses (emissions thing) or the fuel vacuum hose.
It wants to run with air screw closed or barely open. Guessing pilot clogged or need to go bigger pilot. Everything is stock

This procedure may help:
Wear eye protection when spraying carb cleaner, because it always backfires.
Good Fortune!
