78/79 KZ400 carbs
16 Mar 2010 07:48
I have Keihin carbs x2 and I need a complete rebuild kit. I believe I'm sucking air in from my choke lever. I've done some more work to the bike and it's not running just right. She will idle most of the time without the choke once she's warmed up, but when you rev it up it pops and runs rough. As far as I know the carbs haven't been gone thru in a very long time, except for me cleaning them. I've seen rebuild kits out there but I want to replace everything I can or maybe replace the carbs with new ones or a different brand replacement. Any help will be appreciated.

if its popping and snapping that is usally a sign of lean mixture in the pilot circuits it sounds like you need to clean better especally the pilots. also one one other thing can cause this problem if your air mixture screws arn't set properly. a kit won't cure either problem just take your time and make sure you get air thru all the passages when you clean them again the pilot circuit is the smallest in the carb so it doesn't take much to plug it.

Not sure about the popping, but am familiar with the rough running on those carbs. Double check the diaphrams for tears and/or splits, especially around the seal. Mine had a tear that someone tried to repair. I was fortunate to find a carb in a bone yard to use.

I would really like to find a kit to completely rebuild my carbs! Or if anyone knows of some good replacement carbs, maybe I'm dumb or something but I can't seem to find anything or anyone that can give information on aftermarket carbs or find anyone with the capability to do a retore.
