anyone use these pods?
10 Sep 2009 05:06
Over the winter I plan on putting some pods on the bike, on eBay there are several examples of this kind of pod setup:
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4-54mm-Air-Filte...fPartsQ5fAccessories
Has anyone used them? Are they as crappy as their price would suggest? can you clean them, or are they one time use only? If the K and N filters are worth the extra money then I don't mind getting them, they look sick.
Also, some of the eBay pod kits come with new main jets, I will need to get more than just new main jets right?
LASTLY, I really like the look of the stock exhaust on my 82 LTD1000, would putting pods and keeping the exhaust stock mess with the breathing of the bike?

I use them. They are easy on and off. If you are usung a stock airbox you will most likely have to re-jet. K&N are the best. I saw these on EBAY

I wondered if they were any good...Russ

haha! yeah, I was thinking about those too, but the faux carbon fibre might look anachronistic on my bike! Also it looks like the filter media portion of those are really small and would not be as free flowing as the others...
As long as those filters I linked are ok I think I will stick with them...the purple k&n are awesome looking, but cost like 5 times as much...
Russ, the ones you have are cleanable? I don't want to have to replace them in a year once they are dirty.

I have never attempted to clean them. I would just change them. I have a stock airbox from a 1974 model that I am going to put on....Russ

Tuning them was easy thanks to the good folks here. But from responses given the older airboxes are the way to go on my bike. I also like the look of the airbox over the pods...Russ

ok cool, thanks. Do you know if keeping the stock exhaust will be ok with the pods? I figure it might be similar to me running and someone holding a hand on my mouth when I exhale...can I maybe modify the baffle on the stocker to make it flow better?

If/when I remove the carbs to adjust the jetting, should I buy a new set of the rubbers that connect the carbs to the engine?

The ad says "washable", but I wouldn't. If they are like the paper Emgos, they should not get wet if you can help it.
I use the paper Emgos and have not missed cleaning and oiling the K&N's and Uni's one bit. I had to really upjet the carbs, though.

Yeah I am going to get these ones. Regarding where to get jets...I think for my first carb tuning I will stick with dyno jet. For my LTD they seem to only have a stage 3 kit. If I remember they give you 155, 160 and 165 main jets...that seems a little big, no?
Can I put pods on if I keep the stock exhaust, or is there someway to open up the baffle on the stocker?
