air hoses
05 May 2009 15:53
I have an 1980 KZ750 LTD 4cyl. I'm keeping stock airbox, but I recently had tank(fuel) off.
and i noticed the hoses going inbetween the 2 valve cover air valves are all messed up ..so i had a piece of heater hose laying around and i ran it from one side to the other. Is this OK? also what do i do with the small diam. hose going to the carbs..
thanx mike

........or are those hoses the anti smog stuff that they had down in the US and we never got up here ? APE do block off plates and I have heard of people connecting a hose from one side to the other
I have to admit that I have never seen these
I think the small diameter hose going to the carbs (number 2 carb ?) is probably a vacuum line and if so then should be connected to a matching diameter outlet on the petcock.

I also removed the air valve silencer..the small diam. hose went to the silencer and then to 3 of the carbs. does this small hole need plugged or open to atmospher.??I ran bike and this small hose is pulling vacuum..What should i so with it now that i removed the air valves??

That's great :woohoo:
Are there similar vacuum ports on yhe 2 and 3 carbs ?
On my bike I have little rubber vacuum caps on the brass vacuum nipples on the 1, 3 and 4 carbs and on #2 there is a narrow diameter hose which goes to a matching diameter nipple on the petcock. Those four nipples should be either capped or connected to something. Should'nt be left open.
Up here we did'nt get all that stuff with hoses running across the head and into the airbox and so on so it's hard to visualise your setup.
Have fun

I agree with JR. I think he's talking about emissions junk. It should be fine to block them off by connecting them. I put block off plates on mine (credits to Dale for the nicely machined parts).
If you still have your airbox, look for a hole on the front of it, and plug that as well. That's where those hoses were originally routed.
