Carburetors/Airbox tight fit.

Good Day
I've finished cleaning a rack of four from my 1980 kZ750. This bike was sitting 8 years, the carbs were siezed with laquer.
I had a b*tch of a time getting them out from between the engine and gearbox. It was snowing today, so I've put off reassembly attempt #1 until tomorrow.
Does anyone have any tips so I put these carbs back on without looking like Homer Simpson?

use a heat gun and push the boot going to the air box inside the airbox until you get the carbs on the intakes properly then when you get them in place start with the inside air box boots and work you way out feed them on to the carb from inside the air box it might get a bit cramped but it does work. good luck.

Are the airbox ducts soft & pliable? If not, then it might be a good idea to go ahead & get new ones, assuming they're available. Z1Enterprises.com may have them.

If new parts are not available, soaking the old ones in fairly hot water will help in installation.

While you have the carbs off and out of the way you may want to consider replacing the carb holders (the rubber tubes between carb and head). If they haven't been replaced they may have little cracks where they mate to the head which will lead to erratic idle. Ed

Get the new hoses then fold them over when installing or removing the carb bank. Gives you about 1 extra inch of clearance which is a world of difference. They once in a while spray thew new boots with WD or silicone to keep them soft.
