Looking for a vaccume style petcock for a 78 KZ650
08 Apr 2009 10:47
Can anyone help me locate an original style petcock for a KZ 650B? I would like to run the vaccume style petcock.
I am checking EBAY yada yada yada.... but was wondering if a member had one to sell or if there was a source for the vaccume style petcock.
The handle is broken on mine and it is leaking slowly from the mounting bolts?
What kind of ghasket / sealant should I use around the petcock bolts to keep it from leaking? Would teflon tape work?
KRB)

You could try a Suzuki vacuum petcock from Z1
I remembered this thread from a few years back as someday I may want to make this replacement also

as long as your bolt spacing is the same it should work. Check it out

You can still order one from Kawasaki. They used them on the KZ1000P up until 2005 I believe.

Kawasaki used a hundred different part # vacuum petcocks over the years and they are for the most part all discontinued. You can order one for a 2005 policebike and hope it fits, but no way to know for sure.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

The Pingel petcock that Grantl mentioned is a good way to go, and the members here that use them really like them.
But if you'd prefer to stay with an OEM vacuum operated petcock, then you can purchase one for a late model ('80~ IIRC) KZ1000 Police bike through your local Kawi dealership (the OEM petcock for the KZ650 is no longer available).
It uses the same o-ring as your 650 does to seal between the petcock and the tank, and the mounting holes match up 100% perfectly. Trust me, I've had one of the Police petcocks mounted on my '78 KZ650 for over 4 years now.
The only thing that may be an issue is where the outlet fittings/nipples exit the petcock, as they may come in contact with either the top of the carb or the frame.
A simple removal of the diaphragm cover on the back of the petcock to rotate it and face that fitting in another direction is all that's needed to remedy that lil prob.
Expect to pay in the neighborhood of about $85 for a NOS Kawi petcock."
