Without knowing anything about the airbox, exhaust or what type VM26, it would be kind of hard to guess. Since the VM24 is stock on a KZ650, how did you identify the carburetor as a VM26? In any case, you will need larger intake manifolds than stock and if you have all that set up already, then you need to know which VM26 you have. Their jetting varies from #97.5 to #115 main jets and #15 to #22.5 pilot jets depending on the variation of VM26... Your rejetting should be relative to the original jetting so there is no way to answer you...

The VM26s off a 76 KZ900 were about as rich as any VM series carb Kaw sold. The 20 pilots may be a problem... keep your eye on the plugs. I personally would stick with the #17.5 pilots. The header will dictate jet needle position. If no baffle, 4th, if baffled, leave it on 3rd. Main jet is plenty big enough...

Thanks for the info WG.plugs look pretty good just a little dark on the idle but not to worried about that right now.I have another thread going and I am pulling my hair out trying to fix maybe you can help after running at 50+mph and come to a stop the engine dies let it sit for a min or two and it will fire right back up and run great any suggestions. There is a new fuel filter ,lines, cleaned petcock and checked tank vent and all are ok.

Fuel starvation is likely. You might want to use 5/16" line and make sure there are no crimps in the line or real sharp bends. Second thing I would check is the obvious... fuel level in the bowls.

To answer you question regarding how to ID a carb; 26 vs 28, Indykaw77, watch for a carb ID section I am planning for my new web site. The short answer is that there are lots of external differences between assemblies but the easist way to know the size difference is to measure the ID in millimeters of the end of the carb that goes into your intake manifold. Say you measure 26.7mm... this is a VM26. Next step would be to figure out WHICH VM26 and that is one of the things I will cover in the carb ID section. The 28s will measure about 28.7mm, by the way. The OUTSIDE DIAMETER of the 26s is actually slightly larger than the 28s at the end where you are measuring as they have more meat at that point.
