CARB I D
13 Dec 2008 18:04 - 13 Dec 2008 18:59
says they are off 77 kz1000....my manual says that should be 26mm....they look like 28s with the single feed and the bottom adjuster screw for idle..
am i wrong in using those features as a guide?
opinions? to measure size, do you measure inside diameter across on the filter side? ....thanks....keith

Measure carb throat i.d. on engine side.
1977 KZ1000-A1 oem are Mikuni VM26SS carbs, with idle thumb screw on top, and dual fuel inlets.
1978 KZ1000-A2 oem are Mikuni VM26SS carbs (am thinking same VM26SS carbs with idle thumb screw on top, and dual fuel inlets).
1978 KZ1000-D1 (Cafe Racer) oem are Mikuni VM28SS carbs, with idle thumb screw on bottom, and single fuel inlet.
1979 KZ1000-A3 and KZ1000-D2 (Cafe Racer) oem are Mikuni VM28SS (am thinking same VM28SS carbs with idle thumb screw on bottom and single fuel inlet).
Don't know whether the float bowls are interchangeable between the 26's and 28's. (But they might be.)
Am uncertain about whether there may be other various models of Mikuni 26mm or 28mm manual slide carbs out there or where the idle thumb screws are located, or whether fitted with a single fuel pipe inlet or dual fuel pipe inlets.
Do know for sure the 1976 KZ900-B1 LTD oem has Mikuni VM26SS carbs with top located idle thumb screw and dual fuel pipes. And the Mikuni 29mm Smoothbores have top located idle thumb screw and single fuel pipe inlet.
Good Luck!

As these carb holders from Z1E seem to fit 26's, 28's, and 29 smoothbores, would think the 28's would fit okay (if fitment alone is in question). Am thinking 28's should work okay as replacement for 26's, and that lots of folks do this. Should probably expect a difference in powerband characteristics.
