I don't believe the bowls will interchange from a VM26 to a VM29. the 29 bowl is quite a bit larger and shaped differently.

Who was it that said you could use the 26mm carb bowls on the 29's?
I tried it a while ago,to gain the overflow lines,but the 26mm bowls I have...no way they would work.

The bowl gaskets used for 26s and 29s are totally different. The 29 gaskets are much larger. As noted, I don't believe bowls from a 26 or 28 will fit a 29 body. See the picture below. In order for the 26 bowl to fit a 29 body, the bowl gaskets would have to be the same size/shape. They definitely are not. The only bowl that will swap is a VM33 bowl which uses essentially the same gasket.

Some standard half-inch putty should easily do the trick.
Concur with Sandy in thinking it would be nice to gain overflow lines on the 29's.
And I wouldn't mind foregoing the quick mainjet access afforded by the large floatbowl plug.

Some early 29's didnt have the 17mm nut on the float bowl and the float bowls resembled the 26-28 mm carbs.

Like WG said, the 26-28mm float bowls wont fit the 29's.

Ok, I talked to the guy and he now is saying he thinks they are 28's with the centers milled/honed/ground? out to 29 MM. What is the difference between the 26/28 visually? The carbs look just like my 26's that I know work so I am trying to decide which carbs to use. These carbs where given to me so I have nothing to lose really.
