10 Jul 2008 06:23
i have a crack running down the side of hte overflow tube in one of the float bowls, causing me to leak gas. have looked on kawasaki.com and google and ebay to no avail. anybody know where I can get one? or how to replace the overflow tube? would it be a good idea to solder the crack closed?

I have a used one for an 80 KZ1000 LTD if its the same. It has the hole for the idle adjustment screw like the 78. WG would have to check in and tell us if it will work. Its nasty with old dried gas and will need to be soaked but its yours for postage if you want it

80 would have the accelerator pump carbs and be different. Funny they don't specify a part number for the bowls so I assume they were never supplied. Any KZ650, 900, 1000 prior to 1979 should be the same. If you don't find one, buy a cheap set of carbs of ebay, then you've got extra parts that never hurts.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Yes, it's okay to solder, or JB Weld, or shrink-tube.
Good Luck!

The accellerator pump is a seperate unit on there. They appear to be the same as on my 78, but I could be wrong

thanks for the replys, i just posted up another thread going into a little more detail with my progress on the carbs, and soldering and JB weld didnt work, and shrink tubing sounds like a very short term fix.

Well if soldering doesn't work for some reason not sure if this is a permenant fix but I used a piece of fuel line off of a weed eater that fit perfectly snug over the overflow tube on mine..... works great for now....
