zn700 at high RPMs
09 Jul 2008 15:30
I am looking for some educated help on a carb issue on a zn700ltd. She starts fine and runs great hot or cold right up to about 3500 rpms then things get difficult. Above 3500 I can work the rpms up by slowly giving her more gas.
If you just hit the gas hard at any rpm it falls flat. I am thinking that I am running way lean and a good cleaning is in order. I will check the float level also (anyone have the spec for the float level on this bike?)
Any thoughts or advise would be welcome.

I think you hit the nail on the head. If the bike has been sitting a complete cleaning is in order. I would not do any jetting changes yet as the cleaning may do the trick. Has the bike been modified in any way (4/1 pipe, pods, etc)? I can't help you with a float spec but sounds like some plugged passeges or so. Let us know...

Welcome to KZr LoveLTD.
I have the FSM in my garage, and can get you the float level specs (or any other specs needed) tomorrow when I get home from work if you'd like?

No mods, the bike does sit stored every winter. I use a gas stablizer and run the carbs dry. The specs would be very helpful.

If not already done, would perform compression test and check valve clearances.

The service fuel level is 3mm below the gasket mating line. I don't keep track of float level spec as it is a waste of time. Those floats are so bent up from previous owner's ham-fisted bending that it is a waste of time to use the float level spec on the CV34.
