KZ750 Idling Problems

I finally got my bike to run great throughout the RPM range. The only problem is now, the idle won't stay. When I set it, it seems to fluctuate. And when I release the throttle, it is slow to drop down to idle. When I stop, the idle hangs, then slowly drops and will eventually die out. Any ideas? Bike is a 1981 KZ750 LTD. Thanks.

Check for an air leak in your manifolds. Spray WD40 on each manifold, if the idle changes then you need to seal the leak or replace the manifolds.

Also make sure your throttle cables are the proper length and routed correctly. Lube them and make sure they don't bind.

It was the manifolds. I put new K&L manifolds on in April, and no matter how much I tightened them, they would leak. Luckily, I saved the old ones. Everything working now.
