Petcock rebuild

22 Mar 2008 10:04
#201560
Hey all,
I've checked a few threads on people trying to find rebuild kits for the 77 650, with no luck.
Has anyone found anything that worked, other than buying the aftermarket replacements. Is there other makes that will work for the spacing?:S
Thanks

If it's an original 1977 with the manual petcock, there is really nothing to rebuild except replacing the lever oring 670B2010 and bowl oring 51037-010. Buy those 2 orings for $5 or so and you're all rebuilt. Lube the lever so it turns easier is all that's involved otherwise. You can also update to newer vacuum petcocks and run the vacuum line to any of the 4 carb sync ports on the intake rubbers. Any newer KZ650, GPZ, KZ750, KZ1000 vacuum petcock with the same dual bolt mounting should bolt right up. Otherwise use the Suzuki petcock as others have done. Too lazy to search now, but you should find the threads here.

I think they are both pretty common. Any dealer can get them or bikebandit.com. Hopefully they are still available, they should be.

The petcock from any of the B or C models will fit, but I'm not sure beyond that (never seen a D, which is the SR, petcock) but I know that the 81 650h1 (CSR) has different spacing for the bolts than the B (I have both a 77 b1 and an 81 h1 that I've compared trying to swap parts).

My opinion only of course but...
I grew weary of trying to rebuild my previous vacuum-assisted petcock. I never could get it to work correctly after 2 rebuilds.
In the end I contacted Z-1 enterprises (the link is in the vendor section). I purchased a NEW Suzuki petcock, also a vacuum assisted model. I don't remember the cost but it was little more than buying the rebuild kit and it was NEW!
Nary a problem since.

rdgrnr, try this post:

IMHO, I don't like the hoses coming out the right side. With my Pingel the fuel-out hose hits my frame and is hard to remove tank. :(

Best of success. :)

Another website to look at is www.reproductiondecals.com They carry a lot of NOS parts for the older Kawasaki triples and 4's.
