Lost clip and ball bearing that sits in the bottom of one of the carbs and runs to the pump accelerator on a 1979 KZ 650... Took it to a shop and they told me to save money just disconnect the rod that pushes the arm on the pump accelerator... I removed and cleaned the carbs and then disconnected the arm and now can't get the bike to start... It seems like its not getting gas, if I spray starter fluid into the Air Cleaner it'll run for a few seconds then die. I disconnected the fuel line from the valve on the tank, and fuel comes out... I have the manual and have checked everything it recommends, I'm in gainesville Florida, weathers perfect to ride I've got to get out there, please help! Thanks.

The people at that shop were not giving you very good advice. The clip and check valve that are lost are what keep gas from just running through and flooding the other carbs. The checkvalve MUST be in place even if you disconnect the actuating mechanism. Put the actuating mechanism back on and spring for an accelerator pump rebuild kit (www.z1enteprises.com) and rebuild your pump and use the supplied check valve and clip to replace the one that is lost. Oh yeah, find a new shop to get your free tips hehe

Very true. Those people sound like they leave you hanging so you come to them to get it fixed and charge you a whole load of man hours. I got the new parts in the accelerator pump rebuild kit for mine, but I lost the new parts for the check valve, but everythingelse works fine. As wiregeorge said Z1 enterprises has it

What if I rebuild my pump accelerator and it still won't start? I ordered my pump rebuild, rebuilt the pump accelerator and used the clip and ball, I have the carbs. seperate ready to put them on, but I just want to make sure theres nothing else I need to do before I put them on, and what to do if I put it on with rebuilt accelerator pump, it still won't start? Had the hardest time getting carbs. back on... Is there a trick to the ducts that connect from air cleaner to carbs.? Mechanic says it will start and run without the pump accelerator. He tells me its probably the petcock, but forgot to tell him when I put the fuel valve on prime fuel comes out freely..
Thanks,
Ed.
