im fortunate enough to live about 20 miles from z1 enterprise, so im making my first trip there in the morning. i have a wish list of parts (obviously) but i dont have a ton of money to spend. i ordered a new muffler because my bikes was hollowed out by the previous owner. it seems to run pretty good but im sure it will run better with the new muffler. i havent touched the carbs so i dont know what kind of jetting is in there. i doubt it has been changed but who knows...one of the tubes that goes from the carb to the air box has rtv all over it to seal some cracks. can i just spray some carb cleaner or something on them and see if i get a change in rpm?

The pieces your talking about just connect the carbs to the air box, the carb holders (connect carbs to head) are the ones that can greatly affect how the bike runs, I replaced both sets thru Z1. world of difference!

In all these years I've never, ever seen cracked boots between the airbox and carbs on a KZ650. They change from rubber to plastic over time but never crack, just get rock hard, so very unusual, but if they are cracked they need to be replaced. They are not that expensive, replace all 4 for about $15 bucks each. I've never bought from Z1 myself for various reasons. Air leaks on these really don't effect the running, but of course possible dirt inhalation through cracks is always possible.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Your correct Ron, the main reason I changed mine was for carb removal and installation. Much easier now with "rubber" boots. Also got new spring clamps which makes for a sano look!
