Hi, I'm new to this site. I just got a '81 KZ650 CRS recently and need to rebuild the carb. I've been to a couple of sites but seems like I can't find the exact carb rebuild kit. I THINK I have a H1 model because of the spokes on my bike. Also, I've seen many carb kits for the KZ650 on the internet, however the model year only goes up to '79 and not '81. thanks for your help.

Thank you for the info. I did go to the site you posted on my other post. Is it okay just to replace the o-rings? Also what is an accelerator pump? And which one is the #2 carb? Which carb has the accelerator pump(vm24 or bs32)? Thank you for helping me. I want to learn as much as I can.

The accelerator pump wasn't used by Kaw on the BS series carbs... only on the earlier VM series. In 78, the sky was yellow with smog and the EPA was getting on all motor vehicle manufacturers. Kaw didn't have a plan for making their 1978 line cleaner so they leaned out the carbs on almost all models hoping that the hotter running engine would better burn their air/fuel mixtures. This not only killed performance but actually created problems like backfiring and overheating. They decided in 1979 to employ some actual engineering to solve the emissions issue so most KZ models got reed valve systems to toss unburned hydrocarbons back into the exhaust runner on the cylinder head AND added an accelerator pump the the VM carbs being used. This squirted an extra dollop of gas into the combustion chamber as the throttle is just coming open to combat the still-lean jetting. Carbs, cylinder and everything else on a bike is numbered left to right as you sit on the bike. The accelerator pump assemblies feature a much larger #2 bowl because on the VM24, the bowl has TWO diaphragms used to put the squirt of gas into the venturis of all four carbs. The carbs also have an additional gas hose for the pump circuit which you can see linking the four bowls. The KZ1000 models also got an accelerator pump in 79 but used a single stage (one diaphragm) system rather than the double stage used on the VM24. Not sure of the reason. One doesn't seem to work any better than the other.

Hey thanks for the help. I think I have the VM24. Just to confirm, I'll post some pictures.

How do I supply fuel to the carb to check the accelerator pump? I already took the carb out of my bike. Doesn't the carb use vacuum to suck in the fuel and air?

Thanks

Sorry I'm having a problem uploading pictures. Seems like it has to be within a certain limit.
