I think we discussed this already but I can't find it. Since I've decided to try to go ahead with the pod filter set up for now, how long should the overflow tubes be, where should they be directed to (no airbox), and should they be rubber or plastic?

Rubber would be better since it's more flexible and easier to manuever where they need to go, but plastic tubing is ok to use. Just make sure it's fuel resistant.

They should be routed down between the back of the crankcase and the swingarm (very tight fit and a PITA to get to :pinch:), and the ends of them should sit just below the swingarm.
At least that's how they're routed on my wifes 750 Vulcan, my ZN700, and my KZ650.

OK... What are they for? I mean...what happens with the overflow? Is it "just in case it overflows" or do they discharge some fuel all the time. I'm still in bike kindergarten.

They're there in case one (or more) of the float bowls overfills to prevent the fuel from simply running out onto the hot engine. Obviously the reason it's leaking in the first place (stuck float, etc) would need to be addressed.

Thanks Retro, it makes all the sense in the world now. I took a long, closer look at the diagrams.

Wireman, where did you say that the crankcase breather tube is routed to? How long should it be, and it wouldn't hurt to put a filter on it, right? The one on there now is only about 6" long.

The crankcase breather tube normally fits onto a nipple (he, he! I said "nipple") protruding from the bottom of the airbox.
If you're running pods, simply attach a filter (available at most auto parts store) to it and you're set.
You can take the breather tube with you to be sure to get a filter with the correct size fitting on it.
Those filters will be labeled as "breather filter" and come in various cool anodized colors, and should be located in most stores where they keep all the chrome add-on goodies and HI-PO parts. ;)

i just run a hose up over top of battery box and zip tie to frame.that will keep the water out of vent when you go to car wash.sandwich bags and rubber bands work for keeping water out of airfilters at carwash;)
