I just put my carbs back together, and forgot to put in a small ball bearing that lets you pull the choke out halfway instead of all the way. It essentially just fits into this groove in the choke 'rod' that goes through the carbs, and provides a little bit of resistance halfway through.

Is there a difference between having it in and not having it in? Will the choke turn on by accident because I don't have it in there? I'm actually a little concerned now, cause I don't want my choke popping on without knowing it, and screwing up my ride.

hrm...

Okay.

We'll use the pic as reference.

I'm concerned with the ball in circle 1. I've setup the circlips properly (2), so it's got the spring resistance to close..that's a-ok.

The thing I'm worried about is that the ball isn't under the plunger, so it isn't resting in the little groove around the plunger itself.

I really don't think I have much to worry about, I just wanted some reassurance, or some advice from a carb guru to put the ball in.

The problem with that is that I'm not sure if I have the spring or not  It may be in the carb body still..not sure!

I decided that I was better off just fixing it, than trying to see if it worked out. Since I hadn't put the carbs back on the bike yet..I just 'bit the bullet' and took 'em apart again.

I think it was smrt of me. ;)

Probably in that situation you did the right thing :) Have you ever taken carbs apart before?

When I bought the bike last fall, the mechanic I took it to for a safety check took them apart when the bike refused to start. He only took them apart so far as to have the jets and slides out - not the choke or bodies apart at all.

So aside from putting the jets back in last september, this is the first time I've disassembled and reassembled my carbs - down to the last ball bearing. ;)

It works like new too, so I'm really glad I did it.

So not bad for a beginner? :) Im thinking of stripping down my carbs and cleaning them when I get a chance, since im going to be tearing out my airbox anyway..

It's actually fairly easy if you have the patience to deal with small things like circlips. Once I realised how it worked, everything kinda fell into place.

Not afraid of carbs anymore - that's for sure! :)

After doing a bank of 4, a v-twin would be easy. ;)
