KZ750 E1 engine strip down
Yesterday 07:18
Hi all just taken head off for 1st time , due to blowing gaskets and running far too hot.
After a lot of work I got the bike running this year and on the road , It was never running great I stripped carbs numerous times and altered jet sizes, finally got close to it running ok , but always hot ? Probably pod filters?
Well here we have it in bits ,so far ! And to be honest it looks bad to me , any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi,..no wonder about running "too heat":Or rather: it’s a miracle that this engine was running at all without seizing up.
To me, your engine's cylinder liners look badly damaged by corrosion resulting from long periods of inactivity; the upper half of the cylinder wall is completely corroded due to condensation and prolonged downtime. The only solution is boring out to the next oversize and installing a new set of pistons... plus additional work on the cylinder head: check the valve guides, valves, and valve seats; install new stem seals, and so on... A complete engine overhaul is recommended!
Good luck with it!!
In this context, I would like to point out that if an engine is going to sit idle for an extended period (e.g., during the winter off-season), it is highly advisable to remove the spark plugs after the final shutdown and squirt a little oil into the cylinders using an oil can. Then, reinstall the plugs and crank the engine over—using the kickstarter or the electric starter, but WITHOUT the ignition on—so that a film of oil coats the cylinder walls. Furthermore, you should manually turn the engine over every two or three weeks! This ensures not only that the cylinder walls remain free of corrosion but also that the valve springs, camshaft, and other components are subjected to even loading and periodic changes in position.

I can't seen any photos other than these tiny thumbnails. Anyway, it sounds like you need oversize pistons, and to have the cylinder bored out. Cruzin Image sells piston kits for cheap. You should also have the head serviced; check valves, seats, guides, and have new seals installed.

Thanks for your replies, looking like cheapest option would be to get hold of another barrel/ pistons and head then ? As rebore + pistons + rings is out of my budget 😢
funny enough it started straight away every time.
