Here are the pictures of the piston and rings (oil ring is 1 piece). Jim at Redline felt the 1 piece oil ring was never used on a KZ 1000. Does this and my piston pictures, confirm these are Honda pistons as mentioned earlier by Zed? And is a 1 piece oil ring for Honda pistons available today? Here are some ring measurements with a digital caliper ( don't have that small of micrometer.
Oil ring- 1 piece  thickness  2.50mm x width 3.20mm
Top comp. ring.  thickness  1.50mm x width 3.20 mm
2nd comp. ring.  thickness  1.50mm x width 3.20mm
Feeler gage in piston ring grooves- oil groove 2.50mm and comp. groove 1.50mm
Thanks

You would probably be best contacting the guys at IMD with your measurements

Thanks to everyone for the input. Here's some pictures of the project bike and a piston.
Do you guys think this piston/ring kit for a 77 KZ1000 (standard bore) work?

Your pistons appear to be Honda CB450/500 twin so you will need two sets of std rings for those.
I've had a few 900's with the Honda pistons fitted as shown in the attached pic.
Zed
Do you remember if they had a 1 piece oil ring? I found a number for OEM Honda rings 70mm for the CB twin as 13011-375-005, but I'm finding suppliers with a multiple piece oil ring for this number.
Thanks

One piece oil control rings are inferior at "controlling oil".  If at all possible, you want three piece oil control rings.  I have no experience at converting, but just say'n...

Yes, the CB450 used a one piece oil ring, CB500 changed to a 3-piece. Restoring a CB500T at the moment.

I looked up the CB450T and I still get a part number the same as the CB500 which is as you say a 3 piece oil ring. Would you have another part number for the CB450? I bought my 76KZ from a guy (he abused it badly) in 1980 so the ART piston and rings have been in it since at least before I bought it.
Thanks
By the way good luck with your project!
Addendum: Found it in a 1974 CB450T parts diagram 13011-292-000
Thanks, now let's see if I can convert to 3 piece oil ring? Will discuss with IMD.

If you study my pic you will see that they have 3 piece oil rings which is what you need.

Mine are 1 piece, so perhaps I can convert to a 3 piece. Honda 450T had the number for the 1 piece but then superseded this with a 3 piece oil ring when they upgraded.

The 450 and 500 piston ring grooves are the same dimensions.
No need for any conversion.
The 500 ring set with 3 piece oil ring fits both the 450 and 500 pistons with no modification.
The 3 piece oil ring is superior which is why it supersedes the 1 piece in replacement sets..
