Given what was done to the top yolk the PO was an "animal" who obviously abused this bike until it wouldn't run any longer, nice to see it being saved

Yes. A really abused bike in the past.
New carb boots, new carb internals, new air filter (new cap and funnel that were missing), and ngk right plugs are already waiting.

will take the head for new valves to a reputable shop and of course new valve seals. Head will be checked and skimmed if needed.

have already eyed some +0,50 pistons and will have the cylinders bored.will take The pan off for a check. I like the gas oil flush idea.

cheers

Hello,

I´ve found this piston set at IMD Pistons in the UK. They have a lot of excellent opinions. I assume this is the kit for my "J" engine.

imdpistons.com/products/kawasaki-kz1000-csr-998cc-piston-kit

See some pics. Total dissasembly (pistons came out fairly easily). Some details on valve seats that will be done by a reputable shop. New valves and seals will also come in. There is also a pic from the underside of the piston with a hole. There is a little material projection to the underside, but the crank area right below was absolutely spotless.

I have no clue (although I believe so) if my pistons are standard. Can someone guide me here by taking a look at the markings inside the pics?

If they are standard, I should be OK with these pistons from IMD. They are a +0,50 oversize. I will of course get the cylinder block bored.

Thanks a ton.

Carlos

You would be best to carefully clean one of the piston crowns as this is where any oversize is marked (ref the below) and to be "belt and braces" you can measure them with a verier against the spec in the manual (I believe stock is 70mm in a "J" motor)

Look like "stock" to me, a set of +0.5's and a "head job" she should be fresh as a daisy

Pistons are stock.
Exhaust seats look like they've been run with insufficient valve clearance.
If you take the head to a shop make sure they know what they are doing with bucket and shim motors when they cut the seats.
