question about cam timing on ol' uncle sam. i cant seem to find a online PDF service manual for kz70a1. From what i have read they are nearly the same as the 750-4, BUT....
i was doing a valve job on a donor i just picked up,which there missing shims ect.. which lead to think the timing could be off as well, as if someone just slapped it back together..

to me it seems the cam lobes are orientated differently then the 750e im use to.

am i safe to line up the 1-4 T mark with 1-4 pistons up, IN mark on intake cam, and Z7ex mark on the exhaust cam flush with the gasket area ___ 46 links in between as the 750 manual stated ?

to me the lobes look like both valve will open at the same time..

anyone have a straight forward way of doing this??

Thanks ya'll

ya thats what i thought. i did not turn it over. how do i get me back right? my timing mark is on the 1-4 T with pistons 1 and 4 up. i figured if i lineup the correct marks on the cam gears i'd be home.

Looks like you have swap/switch the IN/EX cams.

Look at the notches on the cam ends. At TDC the #4 cyl. the IN/EX cam lobs and nochtes should in this position.

…….and also seems the 'intake' camshaft, should be the exhaust. The band to the right of the valley used to be the gear for the tachometer cable before electronics, and that should be on the exhaust side.

……..the 700 was a 750 anywhere else except the US where it was debored for political reasons, courtesy of H-D. ….the mechanicals were identical. In a 4 cyl, 180 degrees crank, the lobes can only be oriented one way. An exception would be a 'crossplane' 90 dregree crank like what Yamaha is trying to push today.

Welp thats it. i appreciate all the help from everyone on this. my main objective with this engine (Free) was to use the bottom end ( and the oil pan for the cooler) to build with a 6 speed transmission, bore out a 750 cylinder block for 810 kit,and slap my 750 head on it.
I recently tore the bike down to do some frame mods and rewire. i decided to check the valves on my 750 then continue to break a cam cap bolt.....and then an ez out .... :pinch:
So at this time i figured i would pull out this 700 as see if it was a worthy candidate for a temporary engine . and this thing was nothing short of hilarious the farther i dug.
reverse cams
missing shims
dislodge cam chain guide
broken ring in the oil pan but none on the pistons haha
it was definitely on a low carb and water diet .. setting it aside for now and just need to solve this broken stud in the 750

If you click "insert all" when posting photos they will show up in high resolution instead of tiny thumbnails.

Wow! Someone cut a head gasket using a cereal box.
