What's up with this valve?

I removed the cylinder head of my recently purchased KZ400 yesterday and one of the four valves is different from the others. What would cause that?

Heat. That whiteish valve is a fairly normal color. Maybe a little more heat than ideal? The oily valve on the other side suggests problems with oil burning.
