81 kz650 Extra square bushing
11 Jul 2018 05:00
I dropped my pan to fetch a cam tensioner bushing and found a second one I cannot place on partzilla diagrams or in the service manual.
Its about half the size as the idler bushings and marked UP just like them.
I juxtaposed it so you can see... I'm at a loss here.

Maybe a po dropped a cam guide damper down inside the engine & it got sheared by the cam chain or something. and then he left it in there & replaced it. ???

No its solid. If I was paying attention I think it may have been on the tensioner? Its thinner though and no Z mark.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationNo eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationThe stock tensioner doesn't have a damper like that & the damper end of the tensioner pushrod is round & not really removable.
Obviously, I'm not sure where it came from, but to my eye now that I'm on a computer it's kind of similar to the 92075-232 dampers found on the earlier 650s with roller came chain. Those also have a rectangular damper on the end of the tensioner pushrod, but it doesn't look the same.

That was my thinking.
I'm wondering if Kawasaki dropped one in and no one would have ever known.
Bike only has 9 k on it. It died a painful valve train death at the hands of a teenager too... So who knows what they tried...

edit: in case you aren't aware, there's a pdf available for the 1981 KZ650. jarlef z650 >>> files section
