1984 KZ 700

07 Dec 2012 01:01
#561823
Recently got a 1984 KZ 700.
it seems to be a rare model? not too much info out there.

I am looking to turn it into a cafe racer.

Does anyone where to get a cafe racer tank for this model? Is there any other KZ tank that would fit this bike?

THANKS!!

Howdy. I don't know much about the cafe racer stuff, but there are probably a few good sites, so if you can't find any bolt-on cafe tank info then there probably isn't anything specific to your bike, since it's kinda rare.

As for a Kaw tank, I believe your bike is similar to the 83 KZ750-L3 - it's a rare bike as well. The tanks look identical in the diagram drawaings & have the same petcock & fuel gauge assy. The 82 GPz750 tank looks the same as well.

kawasaki.com shows '84 models including:
700 Sport Standard

Fuel tanks might fit.

I have an '84 kz700 -- it was the year that Harley lobbied Congress and got the government to make it very difficult/expensive for the Big 4 bike makers in Japan to import 750cc and larger.

To be frank, my kz700 in stock trim is a *tank.* I mean it is heavy, I believe it makes the "500 club" easily, being just under 500 lbs. with no fluids in it.

Here's a photo of the bike in stock trim and also the GPz750 -- the tank shape looks identical:

If you're into this type of cafe and want some inspiration, have a look at the Kaw Zephyr series -- the 550, 750 and 1100 Zephyr were really cool cafe bikes from Kaw in the early 1990s, a bit before their time as the 'naked sportbike' aka 'retro' craze had not taken off yet, Kaw was early to market with the Zephyr cafe bikes but they are righteously cool.

Didn't like the Vance & Hines pipe on my first on. I won calendar picture in September a few years back.
Love my KZ700!!!!!!
