I have seen a number of 81 KZ1100 vetters like mine with oil coolers, mine doesn't have one.
So...if I'm reading correctly, running synthetic would relieve the panic I had when I started reading this thread?

Car/Van radiators have internal trans coolers that make great bike cooler.
My brother made this one polished it. looks great. i dont remember the cooling difference
but its substantial. 8.00 bucks plus fittings from the junk yard (radiater was toast)

"Can you repeat these tests to give a more statictically sound look? Also, can you verify your IR gun readings with your contact thermometer?"...

Possibly down the road for I'm in the final stage of getting my old girl back on the road... First 50 miler last weekend, the old bitch lives.... lol...

As mentioned, not sure I trust the IR readings as well but the Fluke measurements (thermal bead), yeah those are solid readings. In disregarding all the other readings, a 37 degree drop in oil temp, yeah they work...

Of course you'll need air flow for a cooler off any sorts to work effectively...

Just though of an easy test you could perform....

1) With fan on engine (no cooler) run her on center stand for 5-10 minutes, measure oil temp.
2) Let the engine cool down completely (fan).
3) Install a cooler and run the same test...

Difference in oil temp measurements...? B)
