Oil filter washer...
15 Aug 2011 22:49
Tried to find a parts diagram that would show this but can't find one anywhere that has a parts diagram. I have seen them on here but can't find where you guys come up with them so...what I need to know is...is there a steel flat washer that sits on top of the spring under the oil filter...or does the spring ride against the rubber on the bottom of the oil filter? While we are at it, where do you guys find those parts diagrams. I checked Kawasaki.com but couldn't bring up any diagrams for a KZ1000?

I'm using Firefox, so if you can't click and open that link, then copy and paste it in your browsers address bar.
Other wise it is just cyclepartsnation.com, and do a OEM parts search under Kawasaki.

Lots of good info on kawasaki.com, including parts diagrams, part numbers, models sharing same part, availability, etc.
Here's a link for help with navigating the site and finding information.

Yea...I tried there but couldn't pull up any parts diagrams for these older bikes. Must have been doing something wrong.

Back to the original question about the washer, racer54 you said you haven’t had the washer for quite a while. Have you had any problem without it? I just changed the oil over the weekend, haven’t had the bike long, (1980 KZ1000 LTD) and I don’t recall having that washer.

Jim:
Those washers are often thrown away with the old filter when the owner doesn't realize what it is and that it's just adhered to the rubber seal on the filter. The official line is that they keep the rubber seal from being pushed into the filter.

The washer is not critical. No harm comes from not using it.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
