TOPIC:

I just purchased a crashed cop bike. It's been sitting for about 9 years. Its my intention to put this motor in my current bike after putting on new gaskets. Is there a way I can flush the motor? I'm concerned about what I might use because I think it will effect the clutch. I don't really know, just looking for a product that I can get rid of what I believe will be some sludge. Any other tips are appreciated.

Well, AFAIK, US police bikes are liter engines, & most US toilets are at least 3 liters per flush. You'd think that would mean the cop bike motor would fit with room to spare, but it won't!!!! DAMHIK!

Sorry, man, couldn't resist! I'm probably one of the least-qualified people on here to answer your question, plus I just finished beer #3 on top of a fever, but... If it was me, I'd probably flush it out with WD40, followed by a second flushing with 10W40, then fill it with 10W40 & change after 50 miles or so. Of course, I would only do that after asking here whether that was a stupid plan or not...

I knew that was coming, and I'm glad its the first one and out of the way.

I removed the oil pan from the "77" LTD i bought and it was clean as compared to some engines i've seen. If you flush your engine the crud will still be in the pan. Got a extra oil pan gasket? Roy

Well, I've never done it personally but there are a lot of folks around here who use a certain fuel system/carb/fuel stabilizer I forget what kind but it comes in a white can with red lettering in their oil for 50 miles or so as an engine flush. Supposed to work pretty good. You can run it in your gas too to clean that out a bit.

I'm SURE someone will be able to tell you exactly what that shiz is called, its at every gas station around here so worst case scenerio I'll just check it the next time I go around for the name.

ive heard of people using transmission aditives because they are high detergent and apperently it works pretty good

If I were you I would put some fresh oil in and run it a couple hundred miles and change your oil again.And leave it at that.Alot of times flushing with solvents and things like that you do more harm than good.

yep,you might suddenly develop a bunch of strange new leaks and noises.

thats why detergent additives are a better way to go, because there ment for what your trying to do
