Interesting, indeed. Too bad the aesthetics of the bike is rather lacking. I'm surprised that Lou hasn't chimed in on this one! JK, Lou...it's awesome having someone like you to school us on the inexplicable ways of the electron!!!

Roughly $800 to travel 1000 miles on that bike, vs $100-$120 on a standard stock 650.

He said he has driven it 800-1000 miles and now it needs new batteries at ~$180 each x 4.
So it cost him somewhere around $800 to travel that 800-1000 miles.
We "really" need major advances in battery technology to make electric vehicles practical.

It operates on a 48 VDC system with 4 AGM sealed deep cycle batteries.
I estimate I have put about 800 to 1000 miles on it as an electric. It runs perfectly (and very quietly), but it WILL NEED NEW BATTERIES.
The battery costs about $130-180 per battery (You need 4)

I agree with what everyone is saying but are deep cycle batteries really that expensive? I would think half that price at WalMart maybe? But I wouldn't mind snagging that swingarm!!

I'm surprised he's using a brushed DC motor. I would have thought he'd want to use 3-phase, brushless DC motor... more efficient and no brush maintenance.
