I was going through some photos to check out some “as found” conditions and it’s a wonder I took this bike on, it was pretty ugly, as I imagine many here have encountered.

You have to swap the rubber parts # 8 primary cup to piston and #10 check valve cup to spring end.

24 Oct 2021 08:08Sorry it took this long. The prints were buried in a manual we haven't had out for over two years. The pics were taken for our reference only & printed low-res on a B&W printer without ever planning to be made public.This is slmjim.
That looks maddeningly familiar.
Is the ID the same as the long shaft (16041-004), #83 in the parts manual? Does the OD match the bore where the shaft passes through the carb holder (16065-019) #88 in the parts manual? Hard plastic or stiff-ish rubber (be gentle! It's old.)?
The only ribless carbs we have are installed & running on our 'The Seven Year _itch' early '72 Z1. When I went through them after stumbling across them at Mid-Ohio, I noticed differences in the small parts on the shaft assy. that didn't precisely match the parts manual, a standalone parts sheet from an old OEM Z1 carb kit or, John's book. I took pics during disassembly for use during reassembly. I may still have them. It'll be later today before I can look & will post tomorrow if located.

In the parts manual we see #76 'COLLAR D' next to the long spring #75. Below that is the carb rack itself, #88, and also #84 'COLLAR F'. There is no collar shown between the rack's left boss bore and #76 'COLLAR D'. We believe the mystery collar is located between (inside) the boss and 'COLLAR D'. Without disassembling the rack that's on our bike now, that's as close as we can come to recommending where the mystery collar belongs. See pic below.

We don't have any loose carbs at the moment we can disassemble to check.
