OK Not good news on the paint but I have neither the energy or the spirit to get into it right now.I will come back to you all about it later.

For now,Many other things to do. As I mentioned earlier,I always seem to be jumping from one thing to another so today,I jumped back to the headlight bracket.
Having the ZXR front end meant that the original bracket was not going to work. I did like the look of it though and I really didnt want to buy some off the shelf caferacer things so I went done did this;



I cut the bottom off the original bracket,bent some steel bar and welded it up to lengthen the whole thing. Ive also welded a plate on the bottom (not in the photo) which Ill drill a couple of mounting holes in and it all should fit nicely on the ZXR front end.A bit of a scrub and ill powdercoat it next time im at the bike shop. This means Ill be able to mount the original headlight with no problem.



Itll all become clearer once its all together and mounted.

Ok, Not very inspired these days. I had a few problems which knocked the wind out of my sails. Paint being one of them,though now its done done.When its cured a bit,I can get the engine in and start building a bike ! Other than that, I got the headlight bracket extended (previous post) and ,hopefully, I can powdercoat that and a couple of other bits and bobs on Saturday.
The stripped thread on the front sprocket cover turned into a real little bastard and got the better of me in the end. I couldnt get it drilled out more than 11mm+-. So,I went with that.I drilled it out and rethreaded it to M8 and threaded a piece of aluminium rod which I screwed in and cut off flush. I left it for the thread lock to set and Ill redrill and rethread it to take the original M6 bolt and hope the little bugger holds.




I messed around a bit with the MDF template for the clutch conversion and spaced it more or less where its going to end up.


Im still not convinced on the final profile,maybe Ill wait till its in the frame before deciding. I started to drill out the holes anyway. I needed a 12mm drill for the shift shaft so I went off to the shop and bought a 14mm drill ??????!!!!! My head is just not on straight at the minute!



Im confident things will turn around soon though. Engine in the frame will be a big boost.

A quick question; Can the sump (oil pan) be removed with the engine in frame??

I don't have the "J" Motor David but I can remote mine in the frame. Not much room to work but it's possible.

Thanks for looking. I risked it and I think itll be OK. Meaning? Yes! I went gone done did it! I got the engine in tonight.

So,tomorrow I can start getting things bolted together.Without thinking 'Thisll have to come apart again'. Though the wheels will be coming off for powdercoat and new rubber at some point and I do want to throw the Harris on to check the ground clearence and figure out a new rear mounting point.

Thanks Leon.I havent done anything other than stare at it. I need a to borrow torque wrench to get the engine fixed in properly but my local
torque wrench lending station (Bike shop) is closed on Mondays,so Ill drop by tomorrow and try and cadge one for an hour. More photos to follow.

a torque wrench ?
to torque the engine in the frame?

i have never torqued anything on a bike other than the heads and mains.

always just gone by feel

and,
i own mac torque wrenches from inch pounds up to 300ft lbs.

oh well i haven't died by my own hand yet

Autozone, Advance Auto, and other car parts places have free tool lending programs. I've used them for weirdo, 1-time use tools before, and it's easy. Ed
