Alan,

This is looking amazing! I'm hopefully conquering the rear end on my 650 this week, hoping for the same good looks that you've got here.

Thanks Devin, I'll bet your mono turns out great. Are you grafting on the shock mounts with the engine still in the frame?

Thanks, Alan :) And I am- I left it in place to be able to line the sprocket up (the bike was on the road last year). Worse comes to worse, it's a quick drop out to give us a bit more room to line it all up. You did yours with the engine out when you were painting everything right?

I had the engine in when I first attached the swingarm. I took it out to weld the shock mounts. I'm not that good at welding upside down, or things I can't see very well.

Ah, got ya. The welder that's helping me out is an aircraft welder, so I should be ok :) We'll see when the time comes.

Must be small aircraft? We do zero welding on the big planes. Though lots of welding on the jigs and scaffolding.

Hi Alan. I went to put my rear caliper on the swingarm for my rear conversion, and I can't get the alignment right... I have all the spacers that are needed, but for whatever reason, it just won't line up... Do you have pictures of the spacer set up on your build? Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Devin

Hi Alan I been busy with work, your bike looks awesome, finally got good weather to ride my 1980 KZ750 ltd., what a feeling!!, I can just imagine what yours will feel like.Good luck and thanks again for what you did for me.
I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

Thanks Tony, and you're welcome again. Anything for a nice guy like you.

Devin, I'm heading out of town for the weekend so I won't be able to get you pictures until Sunday night. There's a picture on page 4 near the bottom that kind of shows what I did.

My caliper and wheel are ZX10, swingarm is ZX6. The caliper fit the wheel when stuck on the rotor, but was quite a distance from the swingarm and from catching the torque bar (or whatever you call the rectangle welded to the inside of the swingarm). With everything hanging on the axle, I shoved the rim over to the sprocket side, made sure the caliper was tight to the bearing spacer and measured the distance between the caliper boss and the inside face of the swingarm. Then I machined a new bearing spacer, adding the dimension from the measurement, and made 4 round spacers to move the rotor over the same amount. Because the rotor bolts are slightly shouldered and are received by the rotor and the hub, I made the spacers shoulder into the hub as well. Seems like a lot of work to fix something I don't plan to use. Contemplated leaving it off all together.

Al- that's ok, I'll take a look at the page. I took a look back into by flee-bay receipts, and it looks like the guy labeled the mount as the wrong year. From 96-97 was one mount, 98-99 was another, and 2000+ was another mount. My swingarms (the 600 and the 900) are the same width at the axle, so I shouldn't have an issue with things once I get the proper caliper mount in. The calipers are interchangeable throughout the years, so I'll be ok there. It's just frustrating when you almost have something done, and then someone else's mistake throws a wrench into everything...

One more question- is the inner diameter of your brake mount much larger than the axle diameter? I noticed this on my mount, and was wondering if your brake mount was the same. Thanks Al.
