I feel your pain, same happened here with a 74 Trident, totally sucks, time to step away for a bit and re-evaluate,may find it's not too bad after you clean it up, good lick and hang in

I second mvent's advice. I would have to suspect a fuel leak from #1 or #2 carb dripping on to the exhaust, but who knows. Now is not the time to worry about that. Just walk away from it for a couple of weeks, and don't make a rash decision. I felt the same way the last time I crashed a bike, but after time I wanted to ride so bad that I finally got off my ass and fixed it. Trust me, a MKII is worth fixing regardless of the fire damage. Best wishes.

bummer...oh well now you can make it super nice this time...you got a MKII and that is worth trudging ahead...at least the battery did not blow up and hurt someone...or you burn the whole trailer park down....

sucks i know you worked hard on it but it is good problems to have...folks got dealt way worse hands today somewhere...like tess said ...take a breather then go outside with a few tools in a week or so and and a coffin for the parts ...strip it and get back up....winter and time cures all summers scars.....glad YOUR okay...

make a list later when it is stripped and folks may have some stuff laying around...peace Craig

My first guess would be Z1 Enterprises.
They had a right side control for my kz900.

X-2

Z1-ent

or there is also a seller on e-bay that has a lot of 1979-80 kz1000 shaft drive...and the harness and controls are close enough to the same to be used...small differences in the gear but they will work.

here is a link to the stuff he sells

got the wiring harness back to the seat and the only thing left on the front of the bike is the forks and wheel. Going to try and get the motor pulled when I get off of work today hopefully i'm not too tired.

Folks will be here as you go to help and be sure to post lots of pics and close ups as you go....great reference later imo
