Petrol tank variations

Hi. I just joined the group after aquiring a 1980 KZ750. Thank you so much. What I'm trying to find out, is why some KZ750's have a squarer tank near the seat, while others are more rounded. I hav e searched pics for hours, and cant find the answer to this. I was told that the KZ750LTD had the squarer tank, but numerous pics do not sustantiate this. Thanks in advance.

The answer is style. The LTD and CRS were cruiser style bikes with smaller, more rounded tanks. The GPz was a sportier version that had more squared off styling. The shaft drive bikes were often, not always, aimed at the touring crowd and got large capacity tanks.

my 1980 kz 750 E1 seems like a curved tank and i always thought the LTD tank is even more sloped.

 

For sure the gpz 750 had a squared tank at the seat like Texas says but that model only came in in 1982 or 83

the 750H Ltd-4 has a peanut tank w small capacity. ~3.3 gals or thereabouts. the 750E Standard has a similar shape to the Ltd but larger capacity. ~4.2 gals. from the internet. the GPz has an even larger capacity. ~4.8-5.7 gals. when trying to fit a larger tank to an Ltd, the triple tree will bang against the tank. ding.
