Here's a Look at My Restored KZ 550C
25 Nov 2025 13:16
Howdy everyone. Just a quick note to say how pumped I am to have riden my bike today. The Carolina weather was perfect and I do believe I have worked out all the bugs. Bike starts and runs well. Still have some cosmetic work to do, but a big Thanksgiving shout out to site in general and all you that provide invaluable guidance for the rest of us. Here's a pic for your enjoyment. No where near some of the BOTM's I see, but I am proud of it nonetheless. It was sitting in the woods last year at this time. That's it for now. Go Navy !

looks pretty good. the RH engine cover would be easy to do. one way is to mask the perimeter and apply grease, sparingly, to the Kawasaki, etc, then spray with engine paint or some other high heat paint. if doing it while the the cover is off, clean and lubricate the timing advancer. something that should be done anyway, if not already. the LH side might be easiest in situ.

Thanks guys. Now I need to get rid of this parts bike. Planning to post it in the for sale section with a pic. Hoping someone in NC or nearby will be interested. Hate to see it go to waste.

Your 550C look pretty dam good! It's always encouraging to see progress on other bikes when you have 1 or 2 waiting for TLC in the garage!
For the engine cover, I agree with H1Vindicator, if you can remove the cover, it's pretty easy to make it look new(ish). What I have done multiple time to mask the large aluminum side with auto paint tape (the flexible kind). Then spray with your choice of heat resistant paint. Lets it dry just a few hours and use a plastic scraper to reveal the kawasaki inscription and lines. You can then finish it with gradually finer sand paper and steel wool.
