Help from European Z750-L owners...

I recently bought a z750-L tank for my 81 KZ750. The tank fits perfect, but my seat is now too long. I was thinking about modifying my seat pan or trying to find the correct seat pan. I was going to see if anyone could post pictures of the Z750-L seat pan and hinge mounting on their bike. I know these models were in Europe, Australia, and Japan. Thanks for any help.

I guess this will depend on "how much you want it" - from what I can see on CMNSL the "L" has the same seat as the "R1" which looking at the parts diagram has a "lift off" not a hinged" seat (the mounting system would need fabbing). Also the plastic tail piece is unique to the "L" model. Perhaps the easiest way is to modify what you have then get a trim shop to recover it (this is what I did)

I appreciate the response, but I'm pretty sure the 1981 z750-L has a hinged seat and the rear tail piece is the same.

Does anyone have pictures of there seat for a 1981 z750-L??? Thank you..

It's strange that CMNSL only list the "L3" and "L4" no mention of the "L1" anywhere !!!! I'm sure somebody will sort you out with what you need

The Z750L1 made debut in Europe in 1981 and had the same tänk and seat as the 1982 Gpz Z750R1.
what frame are you trying to fit it to?

Thanks for the help guys. I have a 1981 KZ750E. I've looked into the 1982 gpz 750 tanks and I think their mounting tab, where it mounts by the seat, are different. If somebody had a 1982 gpz 750-R1 tank and could take some measures I would sure appreciate it. Here is the picture of my L1 tank.

I do have a 750R1 tank laying around in my workshop, but I will not be there until next weekend.
if nobody else comes up with a measurement I can assist next weekend.

Back in the days my friend had a Z750E1 and me a Z750R1. The R1 has completely different holder for the seat.
E1 has hinges and R1 tabs.
So you will need the R1 hardware and weld som m6 studs to your frame up front and then the locking mechanism at the rear.

Thanks for the reply. I ended up buying a kz1000e shaft tank that I'm going to try instead. There is a member on here who made it work by welding on different mounts for the ears to mount to. This tank seems to work with the stock seat, so Im going to give it a try. The thing that sucks is that I've already powdercoated the frame. I wasnt planning on going this route, but the square looking tanks look so much better than the teardrop drop style that it came with. It seems like if you have a project for long enough directions change, lol.

Thats a great looking bike and I 100% agree with you. I look at so much stuff and bikes on web bike Japan that think its creeped into my sub conscious 😀

My bike will still be 100% Kawasaki and nothing has been cut on the frame or anything other than stock, so I can justify it 😉

Not trying to be a knob or anything, but why does the tank you posted a pic of have that giant "horse shoe" on the back of it?? Seems like it if it was an issue, just cut it off?? Coming from a guy who never worked on a 750...

Yeah you are correct, it shouldn't be there. I got the tank used and Im not for sure why they welded it to the tank. I was going to cut it off, but decided to go a different route.

You can see that the 750L tank is like 2.5" longer than the stock tank. Im guessing the 750L tank comes with a different shorter seat. I could never find the seat. Im going with the kz1000 shaft tank and going to give that a try.
