New look for my 550!
23 Mar 2025 21:33 - 23 Mar 2025 21:33
Actually, I guess it's a 615 now with the Wiseco kit.
Pretty happy with the result overall though very disappointed with the Car Rep 2K clear, will never use that stuff again.

Love it!
I commend you on doing the paint yourself. I chickened out and sent my bodywork out to be done, and honestly, it isn’t great.
But getting the rims on my zr550 powder coated black is my favorite cosmetic change I did to it.

Hey Zaddict, not to derail your thread too much here, but I’m curious if you’ve noticed any significant difference in fuel mileage since installing the Wiseco 615 kit in your bike. I’ve done one kit install before, and that bike left me dead on the side of the highway at least once cause it ran out of fuel. But I don’t know if that was because the bigger pistons were just using more gas, or if I actually had some other problem I never figured out. I already bought a kit to do another one, but I’m having second thoughts thinking about fuel economy on longer rides.
A breeze from the west.

That's probably worth a whole new thread to talk about experiences installing the 615 kit. My initial gas mileage after the build was preposterously bad, maybe 15-20 mpg (down from 40mpg, which was down from 47mpg after installing cams from a 1984 GPZ550). Turns out the Factory Pro stage 1 jetting I had installed was way too rich. I installed a wideband O2 sensor and dialed in the jetting, going down in mains substantially (will find exact numbers). Now I'm back at 40mpg and the bike is running well. In the meantime I may have washed out the cylinders with gasoline which potentially contributed to my current high oil consumption. I'm planning on doing a leak down test to figure out what's going on. But long story short, you shouldn't see a change in mileage if your jetting is correct.
