Might want to join up and ask the same question over on the Yahoo KZ1000P Group:

autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/kz1000p/

I did a quick search of the archives, and there's not much there to date. Based on what I saw, those that have toyed with the idea are of the opinion that MP3 players are better suited because of anti-skip issues.

That said, I'm sure that a mount for one of those mini-planform stereos could be shoehorned into one of the fairing poskets, but I've neither done it or seen it done.

I've carried a small MP3 player/radio and a CD in my jacket a couple of times, but found it to be more of a distracton than I cared to deal with....

Thanks, but you can bet I'm not nearly as smart as I think I am..B)

My experience with any kind of noisemaker - radio, tape, CD, MP3 or Tomato of the Moment  is that they're *all* about equally distracting. But then, I'm the type that likes the stock pipes because I can *hear* what's going on beyond the peripheral range of my peepers, so don't consider me normal...

That said liking a stereo is a YMMV kind of statement, so if you put a little thought to it, you're bound to either find or come up with something.

Side cover decals can be found at Reproduction Decals up in Toronto - and they're nice folks:

www.reproductiondecals.com/default_frame...ml?content.html~main

The sidecover decals are pretty much legal everywhere I'm aware of because they're an OEM model designator, not "statement of affiliation" with law enforcemennt.

You might want to check to see if there are any Michigan laws regarding displaying anything like large POLICE, SHERIFF or specific department decals. Most states have some kind of frown on what could ne interpreted as "impersonation", and even if they don't, it's always a possibility that the odd Barney could try to make one up on the fly...

The pursuit lights are another item worth boning up on in your home state. It's pretty much a lock everywhere that red, blue or combinations of same are strictly verbotten. Most states will allow some type of flasher -either in white or amber - otherwise cager-ers would be helpless in a light drizzle. . Most states use purple for funeral processions.

Find the pertinent sections of state laws - say ORC 4513.17, print them out and keep it in your saddlebag with your registration. Nothing shuts a Barney up like a a parking lot pop quiz on his own bloody rulebook - if you're right and can prove it.

There's something to add here: I've owned my '78 KZ *C* for 8 years, ridden all over the pea patch and have only ever been *mildly* hassled once - and that was by a rook who's mom was in High Skool when my bike was out eiding a beat. And he wasn't really a jerk about it. That's when I got the idea too keep a small law library in my bag. I've flashed it a couple of times since, and it greases rails and generally gets conversations headed to the friendly side.

Otherwise, the overwhelming reaction of Gendarmes' at-large is positive. I've been pulled over twice "just to get a look". It'll cop-magnet patrol cars into gas stations for the same reason. An HD motor-cop pulled alongside and said, "Wish I was riding that one." I've been cut more slack in traffic than I ever *dreamed* could happen.

And if there's something I *don't* look like, it's some kind of costume ball CHiPs fan-boy.

Owning a nice vintage cop stocker is a bit of a different experience. There's some things to know about it, but it's quite a ride.

Oh - and the reason you've got a Vetter fairing is because your bike did NOT originally come with a fairing - it came with a framed windshield. Some, somewhere in its past decided to "upgrade" its looks to something more like a "P" model...

With a Vetter fairing it should be easy, just get the "CycleSound" that was made for the Vetter fairings, my brother has one on his 82KZ1000 CSR, but the fairing was originally on a 750 twin.

Well, to combine a couple of your statements with your updated sig; you're going to have a hard time finding an OEM fairing for a 1979 C2 for the simple reason that they *didn't make them*. You're gonna have to either revert to the framed windshield, or transplant a '82 P1 fairing. Myself, I'm for keeping a '79 all '79, but there's no Kaw Cops that'll bust you if you decide otherwise.

Well, they made more than 2 Vetter boxes. another will show up. I think it was one of the Mods - NONB - that wrote to someone else, "just keep looking - just about the time you give up, 2 come out of the woodpile," or something to that effect. I went through a couple of phases before lucking into mine.

Another box that would work spiffy - I've seen a couple on KZPs - is the Tour Pak (tm) from late '80s early '90s Harley dressers. Nice piece - you might want to try looking on Ebay for those as well.

Well, admittedly, there's better bikes to learn on, but it isn't a sure-fire death sentence either. Just go easy. It ain't a streetfighter, it ain't as fast as the average Joe Six-Pack thinks, and if you like to grind floorboard chasing Haybasas, you're a lock for a Darwin Award. Get good tires, swingarm bushings and neck bearings - you-ll need 'em. Make sure the brakes work. Don't be a stoplight squirrel - you'll lose more than you win. There's nothing to prove, except that you've kept the shiny side up.

There's a thousand tricks to riding a motorcycle - if you live long enough, you'll see 999 of 'em.

Here's an example of a mid-80's HD Tour Pak on a KZP.

It ain't mine, I didn't take the picture, and I sure as hell didn't do the paint, but it works as an example.

Some of the later model boxes have a little slicker shape and a nicer back rest - I almost put one on mine...

Just a suggestion, if I may...

The 'ole girl being your first date, so to speak, you might want to pay a little more attention to her than *Inna Gadda Da Vida* on the Blaupunkt.

A KZ will treat you right if you treat her right; but they can be a bit jealous and if you don't watch it, they'll teach you a little lesson in "Rodeo Sex" - you know - when you take your girl for a canine-style ride and call her by your ex's name - tthen just *try* to hang on for 8 seconds...

...yeah the jammer dose nothing for my bike i found a police on ebay for 50.00 and 50.00 shipped not good feedback though so id rather be safe then sorry...

Here's a tip: if you're looking for Ebay or mail order cop parts, STAY AWAY from Hollywood Motors. Despite the glitzy Ebay ads, it's pretty much a one-man-band that caters more to leasing KZs to the studios so they can wreck 'em (Con Air, for example) than paying attention to parts orders.

A far superior source is Western Motorcycle Escorts, find-able under PMHA.net - an excellent cop site.
