Need some help. Have a 79 KZ1000E1 ST (shaft) project bike. Totally disassembled and now putting it back together. The rear master cylinder has a two hole bracket. On my 80 KZ1000E2 project bike, there is a bracket connecting it to the battery box. Bracket is about 2" long and slightly curved and the bracket bolts to the battery box via two bolts. On the 79, there are NO HOLES in the battery box and no bracket that I can find and I just can't recall what the master cylinder mounted to. If you have a 79, can you tell me how to secure the rear brake master cylinder?

My bike is a 79 KZ1000 LTD (no shaft). The rear MC has two bolts to a bracket welded to the frame. There is also a "L" bracket with rubber gromet for the side panel that is welded there too. Sorry the pic is not better.

I thought I'd look it up on Buy Kawasaki's parts diagrams, but for the E1s there are no diagrams available for frame, battery box, and rear master cylinder. That's not right.

KZReeder... take a minute and look UNDER the pan that holds the reg/rec. My master cylinder is like yours... a metal plunger part that mounts to the frame with two bolts and a plastic cup that connects to the metal part using a rubber hose. On the 80, this type is used and mounts to the battery box via a bracket as there are two welded on nuts on the box. The 79 battery box doesn't have the welded on nuts. I suspect a change in master cylinder types from 79 to 80 but if you look at how yours is mounted, I may be wrong. Have a look at the drawing for the 80 KZ1000E2 master cylinder mount and see if this is the way yours mounts. Thanks!

WG... sorry about not responding sooner... I'm not using any of that stuff on my bike anymore... I can send you the correct mounting stuff... here's a better picture of what mine looks like. I'll dig through my pile tonight and lay out the individual pieces and get a digital shot of it.

If you need it, you can have it... just PM me with your shipping info and I'll pop it in the mail for you.

Later,
Claude

Here's my set-up a few weeks ago, I've done a few more things to it but... as you can see any of that stuff that went in the battery holder area, you are more than welcome to have.B)
