I have a 77 KZ1000A1 model, according to the vin on the frame. Both front and rear are spoked rims. I goto, for example, the Dunlop website and select fitment. My supposedly A1 model calls for a 18" rear tire, 19" front, but I actually have a 16" rear on the bike. The front size is correct. I can select the "LTD,Classic" category and there I have a listing for the rear being a 16" rim fitment. I'm totally confused. Do I have a heinz57 77 KZ1000A1 or did some 77 KZ1000A1s come with a 16" rear? If it is mixed and matched are there potential problems with the safety of the bike. I rode it for several years with this config, no problems. But this has me questioning other issues as to what type bike I need to order other parts for??? Help Please.

If you have a spoked rear hub, then you have probably what was termed a 'harley' hub. This was a common 'upgrade' for the period. No KZ1000A models came with 16" rear rims. I think it took a fatter tire than the LTD (B series) 16" mag...to be safe, run the same tire that is on the rear hub. And tubes in your tires too.:)

I've found general confusion in the "modern bike shop community" when it comes to our older models.

Generally, they seem in awe about the sizes (they thought my back tire size was for the front) and when calling back about a quote i got for tires that cost ~$50, one of the salesmen told me "I'm sorry if someone told you that here but I wouldn't want tires on My bike that cost so cheap." Whether that was a sales-tainted opinion or not, I do not know, but it pays to do your research and have your ducks in a row before buying... which I guess is what you're doing here! :)

my A1 has a 16" rear. I was told that it's of a LTd
the CB1 AKA CB400F honda has a 17" ;-)
the gpz1100(82 at least) came with an 18"
the police bikes came with 18"
So you should not have much trouble changing size if you want to.
