Today i took the kz900 front wheel in for a new tire.
they say come back around 6pm to pick it up. so i show up around then to find out they cannot put a tire on it because of all the rust inside the wheel.

so, i bring it home and start the removal of crusty rust inside the lip of the wheel, it took me forever to get it cleaned up!
the rust was a part of the steel it seemed like and not coming off too well.
Sooo... I gets the ole drill out and sacrifice a couple Dremmel bits to remove the rust the right way, now its down to bare metal again.

Is there anything I can spray on the wheel to prevent the rust from returning in the future and going through this all over again, but able to mount a tire on the wheel?

Maybe spray it with some rust inhibitor and a coat of primer.

Are you sure you haven't lost so much metal that the wheel is unsafe?

I went through the same thing, and a Friend of Mine told Me about this suff...

PLASTI-KOTE

...and it worked great.
It goes on clear, and dries to a black finish, and it DOES stop the rust!
I'm sure there are other products like it,but this one is what I used at the time.B)

it had a bunch of black crud where the tire seated on the rim, its ok but needs to be trued as does the rear wheel, im going to putt around a bit in town with it and look for some mag style wheels since i like em better.
will think about the wheel you have though, right now I already spent everything i could afford for the bike so i have to wait.
still cant ride it though, they popped the tire on backwards for me so I have to take it back to the morons. even after i marked the wheel & made sure he know the direction it rotates. then dummy me didnt check it to make sure before i left.

Rustoleum, I paint everything with it works great, I even paint the inside of engine blocks with it, never had another problem
