SO, I've seen a lot of information about swapping in a GSXR swing arm. How can I find out which ones would fit my '77 1000A?!? What years and cc sizes would fit? Is there a site a can cross reference or does anyone know off hand?

My experience is limited to the earliest of GSXR 1100's. I think the older air/oil cooled models are a basic drop in with maybe washer to fill in gaps. Shock mounts need to be welded on for twin shock setup. Pretty sure this forum will fill fast with advice much better than mine.

The early 80's 1000 and 1100 gs arms go right in. i have one and I got a set of shocks from a 77 gs750. I hope it all goes together easy!

just measure your swingarm where it pivots in the frame, and either trim or shim a gsxr arm to fit. i had to trim about 1/4 inch off(1/8 from each side) of my zx arm to get it to fit

I have a 2005 gsx1000r swing on a 74 z1 pretty easy w/minor machining of bushings for pivot and shock mount fab. completed yesterday and I was amazed how simple it actually fit. Oh yeah, i had to remove the triangulated pass peg and muffler bracket.
Late model gsxr's (late 90's ond up) all share mounting dimentions.600r-1300r. different models may have different styles (bracing and so forth) the SRAD models and others without bracing require less work and may allow you to retain pass. pegs, I didnot want them.
the stock pivot pin on my z1 measured 0.6175. machine bronze stock to an outer diameter 0f 29.85mm, this will allow you to knock out the inner sleeve, exposing the bearing on the gsxr arm, and drop it inplace, replace the retainer cap and go. Do not forget to leave a collar on the bushings to prevent them from falling in.
Ileft one 3/16" thich on both sides and eliminated the need for shims all together.I will barrow a digi cam and get some shots. until then, I found these pics on this site, it is a twin but still yeilds useful info a very coll bike in the making!!!

An alternative to a GXSR swingarm is a Bandit 1200 swingarm.

I got an excellent '97 Bandit 1200 swingarm for $60.00 with shipping on ebay. This swingarm is narrower at the frame/pivot area than the stock KZ1000 swingarm, so only shims were needed, plus a long spacer to take up the 4 mm difference between the 20 mm Bandit 1200 bearing/internal spacer/pivot bolt and the stock KZ1000 16 mm pivot bolt. I'm fitting this Bandit 1200 swingarm to a '78 KZ1000 project bike's frame. Will weld up some PMC twin shock mounts to the Bandit 1200 swingarm and fit a pair of ZRX1100/1200 rear shocks.
