KZ750-L3 vs. ZX750-R1, For Parts

Welp, my rear mstr cyl was frozen with rust, and after several days of soaking in PB Blaster, I broke it.  There are OEM complete assemblies available, but as I was looking for a part number for JUST the mstr cyl, (it's not shown as a separate part in the parts diagrams), I found different part # for these 2 bikes, which I know are essentially the same, with only a few changes.

Is there any difference btw the mstr cyl assembly on these 2 bikes, other than the color?

Edit:  I meant KZ750-R1 in the title.  I know the "ZX" designation was for the Uni-Trak model that came out in 83.

To be honest if it was that rusty you would probably of needed to replace it anyway

Most likely just minor differences, like color, as you said.

When restoring my 750, I had a dickens of a time finding a rear master that wasn't corroded on the inside.  I bought several before getting a clean one.  Mine came from a GPz550.  It's the same part as my bike, other than it's black vs. silver.

Might i suggest visiting the Partzilla diagram section for both KZ and ZX versions. Seems some masters exit their fluid via banjo either on top or side. Piston assy's appear the same but the actuator rods from pedal to piston are different. These will swap out, just pull the circlip and transfer. Also some masters are threaded into housing, some aren't and require a bolt and nut to attach to frame. You have a unique model where a lot of stuff at headquarters was going on. 700cc tariff and transition to watercooling, sorry!!

Good advice from asphalt900...also be aware that the KZ750R1 is not listed as a produced model on the US/Canada Kawasaki site yet is listed on other sites with exploded diagrams (Partzilla, and CMSNL.com). Note that for many parts, the KZ750L3 closely resembles the KZ750R1.

That's why I asked if that mstr cyl was the same part, just black and not aluminum, but I referred to the 82 GPz as "ZX" in the thread title.  My bad.  I'm going to buy the one for the 82 GPz  (KZ750-R1), and live with it being black.  For some reason the 2 inner carburetor caps on this bike are also black crinkle, so they probably came from a GPz too.

I have a functioning 1983 KZ750L3 rear master. I cleaned it up last year and made sure that it pumps fluid. Quite ironic because I searched for one for a year on and off then found one in my storage after over-paying for the one that is on my bike now. I've owned my L3 since 1990.

I'm going to be putting my L3 parts on eBay soon.
