Front brake caliper slider o-rings

I have a diagram of the front caliper for my 1980 LTD 1000.  I bought a rebuild kit and it came with 4 o-rings that go under the slide pin boot covers.  However I don't see a groove or such that would hold them in place.  Is the purpose of these to apply friction to the boots so they stay on? 

I was doing some more cleaning and I stumbled across the o-rings inside the bracket that the slide bolts pass through.
