Leak from driveshaft/final drive

Hey guys,

I have a leak that’s coming out of where the driveshaft meets the final drive and I’m not sure what’s making it leak. I’m wondering if it’s leaking out of the final drive itself or if it is leaking from the seal at the front bevel gears and running down the tube that encloses the driveshaft and out at the bottom. 1982 1100 Spectre

In my opinion, if the leak was coming from the front bevel gears, the front rubber boot would be wet with oil. The easiest way to find out is to remove the clamp holding the front propeller boot, push the rubber boot to the side and look.

Yeah I think I’ll just do that. There is a bead of oil hanging at the bottom of the boot, but there’s also the possibility it’s leaking from both places

As long as you have it apart would be a great time to service the drive shaft slip joints. Honda sells an excellent lube for that specific purpose..
