Hello. 1980 kz440 Ltd. that has stock forks. From roughly where the outermost lower fork tubes sit, how far up the inner upper fork tubes, will the lowers travel? Basically I have rust pitting on the inner tubes about 2” up and I’m trying to see if that will be a problem. Thanks

Probably around 6". .. The service manual should list the amount of wheel travel in mm. see the technical specs section at the beginning of the manual. The KZ400.com site has a Kawasaki 440 FSM. I looked at it last week. click the 2nd "here" where it says you can download it.

You might be able to find a good set forks on EB. not sure how expensive re-chroming would be.

I asked on FB and they also mentioned franks. So I sent them an email. Worst case I’ll get them rechromed, I don’t think it will cost much.

If you go for a re chrome be careful. Too thick and they will have sticky travel, too thin and you will feel them knock when you use the front brake.

Z1000J2 somewhat modified!
