Hey All,

I'm new to the forum. I just picked up a 1983 KZ750 4 cylinder that I want to turn into a brat/scrambler hybrid. I'm looking for a more square-ish fuel tank (sorry stock bike lovers! ;)
I've heard that the 1982 kz550 or gpz tanks might by swapped with a lil' modification. Any recommendations for this or other threads I should look at for my project?

Thanks for any help with this!

Howdy. The tripe tree will probably bang against & ding a larger tank. There are probably some fixes for this >> maybe have a welder add some material to the steering stop peg or drill a hole thru the peg & add a bolt or something. These things will reduce the turning radius, but would probably only affect pushing & maneuvering the motorcycle around in tight spots, such as in a garage or driveway.

KZ750-F LTD

Anyone know if a 1981 Kawasaki KZ550D1 Fuel Tank (GPZ550) could be modified to fit on this bike?

Anyone know of square-ish tank option that wouldn't be too tough to modify to fit this bike? Any guidance appreciated...

I don't know how easily a GPz type tanks can be made to fit. The 550 is a smaller motorcycle, so that GPz tank might be too short. A 750-GPz, KZ750-L3 or KZ700 tank might be a better fit. You could measure the distance between your front tank mounts & also measure the length of your tank from the Fr tank mounts to the rear of the tank. Also, note how deep the frame channel is >> a GPz might have a deeper channel. guessing. Then compare your numbers to a potential donor tank.

Also, the KZ750E has a larger tank than an Ltd, but it isn't squarish like a GPz fuel tank. The 750E tank is a direct bolt-on to the 750H Ltd chain drive frame, but the Ltd upper triple is kind of straight across & will bang against it; the Ltd Shaft triple tree is similar. The 750E triple tree is angled forward to allow clearance for the larger tank.
