Hello,

i feel that the front disc brake of my kz400 is lacking a bit of stoppning power. I have to push pretty far on the handle but it still doesnt stop very well.

In what order should upgrades be made? Performance and cost-wise. Best bang for the buck upgrade?
Was thinking of Steel braided lines..

Kind regards Johan

First priority might be new brake pads.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

In addition to the brake pads which could be glazed, if the motorcycle still has the original rubber brake hoses, then you should replace them. ss braided lines are a common upgrade. There are all sorts of choices available, but I installed Goodridge lines & fittings from Z1Enterprises.com. CycleBrakes.com has Galfer brakes lines with integrated fittings that are crimped on.

Your master cylinder might be worn out. If the piston is not sealing well [inside the master cylinder] you will likely have poor braking coupled with longer lever travel.

And I second the motions that your pads and lines should be inspected and probably replaced.
